OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep over Doane on Sunday afternoon at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.

The Mavericks improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 0-1.

"Today was our first home match of the year and everyone competed hard and played good, consistent tennis," commented head coach Tyson Thomas.  "I'm really proud of our team's performance this afternoon."

Omaha won all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point.  The pairing of freshmen Matt Dunn and Brent McKnight took a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.  At No. 3, the Mavericks duo of John Ellis and Lukas Vanzura defeated the Tigers Keagan Hill and Yuu Sakaguchi, 6-1 to clinch the doubles point.  In a back-and-forth affair at No. 1 doubles, junior Colin Buckley and newcomer Alex Woodward earned their first doubles win as a pairing after defeating the tandem of Kris Kiland and Ignacio Morell, 6-1.

Momentum continued in Omaha's favor as Sean Padios defeated Sakaguchi, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles match.  Padios recorded his first college singles victory.  Ignace Warson recorded his first win of the season at No. 5 singles by dispatching Hill, 6-2, 6-0.

The Mavericks claimed the match in No. 4 singles as Ellis notched a straight set win over Grayson McCartney, 6-2, 6-1.  Marko Minic made quick work of Cook at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Woodward and Dunn completed the sweep with straight set victories at No. 2 and No. 1 singles.  Woodward defeated Morell, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2, while Dunn won an entertaining match over Kiland at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1.

"One of my favorite parts about today's contest was watching our players compete," added Thomas.  "We made a couple adjustments in our singles line-up following doubles.  The guys did a nice job sliding up in the lineup and playing well."

Omaha will play three home matches next weekend.  The Mavericks will welcome Concordia on Friday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m.  Then on Saturday, Illinois State visits Miracle Hill Tennis Center at 6 p.m.  Omaha wraps up the weekend by hosting Summit League foe No. 51 Denver at noon on Sunday.
