Mavericks Earn Highest Preseason Ranking

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha hockey team is ranked 10th in the USCHO.com preseason poll released on Monday.  It's the highest preseason ranking for the Mavericks in school history.

The Mavericks received 505 points in the voting but did not receive any first-place votes.  They ranked just behind Minnesota and just ahead of fellow NCHC member Miami.  The Mavs and RedHawks are part of a contingent of six conference schools ranked in the USCHO.com top-20, the most of any conference.

Boston College is the preseason number one selection, receiving 19 first-place votes and 907 points total.  Minnesota Duluth is second (12/836), Boston University (6/820) third, North Dakota (1/766) fourth and Denver (739) fifth.  The link to the entire poll appears with this article.

UNO's first opponent of the 2015-16 season, Minnesota State, is ranked sixth with 699 points and one first-place vote.

The Mavericks' previous-best preseason ranking came ahead of both the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons when they were ranked 13th in USCHO.com's then top-15 poll.  The last time they were ranked in a preseason poll was 2011-12 when they were 14th.  That came following their appearance in the 2011 NCAA playoffs.

Omaha is coming off its most successful season last year, posting a record of 20-13-6 and earning a berth in the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time in school history.

The Mavericks open the season on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10 at Minnesota State.
