OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha, UNO Athletics and Learfield Sports' Omaha Sports Properties have announced a new five-year sponsorship agreement with First National Bank that names the bank the “Official Bank of UNO” and the “Official Bank of UNO Athletics” that includes a major branding presence within the new UNO Community Arena, which will be home to the school's hockey, men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball teams.
"We are incredibly excited to partner with First National Bank as the official bank of UNO and UNO Athletics," UNO Chancellor John Christensen said. "Bringing together one of Omaha's premier business leaders with UNO has all the makings of a strong, lasting partnership."
As part of the agreement, which begins July 1, First National Bank will furnish automated teller machines (ATMs) within the UNO Community Arena and expand the number of ATMs throughout the university's campus. In addition, First National will be the official banking partner of the UNO International Studies & Programs department and serve as the major sponsor of Durango Days, previously known as Welcome Week, in the Fall and Winter of each school year.
“First National Bank has enjoyed a long history of involvement with UNO Athletics,” said Dan O'Neill, president. “We look forward to this opportunity to expand our support of the school's outstanding athletic and educational programs.”
O'Neill said First National Bank will co-brand several of its Omaha-area branches on Fridays that the Maverick hockey team plays by flying UNO flags at those locations and outfitting employees with UNO shirts. The ATMs in those locations will be wrapped with a Maverick color scheme.
"First National Bank has been a consistent supporter of UNO and Omaha Athletics. We are honored and humbled at the continuation of our partnership. This unprecedented support will continue to advance the opportunities of all of our student-athletes," said Trev Alberts, Athletic Director.
According to the university, 80 percent of the student body comes from the greater Omaha area, as do 50 percent of UNO alumni.
