Greeley, Colo. – The Omaha men's tennis team hit the courts Thursday afternoon for a non-conference duel against Northern Colorado. The Mavericks drop to 3-16 overall and 1-0 in the Summit League, while the Bears improve to 7-12. Colin Buckley earned a victory at No. 1 singles as Omaha fell to the Bears by a 6-1 final.
Omaha got off to a rough start as Northern Colorado swept all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Marko Minic and John Ellis were defeated, 6-0. Ignace Warson and Erik Anderson were narrowly defeated at No. 3, 7-6.
Buckley, competing against Ben Gendron in the No. 1 spot, won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
Elsewhere in singles action, Omaha was unable to secure another victory as UNC took the remaining five matches in straight sets. Anderson and Minic each lost very competitive matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles by the identical scores of 6-4, 6-3. Ignace Warson lost a tight match at No. 5 singles to Cassell King 7-5, 6-3. At No. 6, Greteman dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision.
The Mavericks return to Summit League action tomorrow in Denver, Colo. against 40th-ranked University of Denver. The match is set to start at 11:00 a.m. (CT).
