FORT WAYNE, Ind. – High winds in the Fort Wayne area forced the men's tennis match between Omaha and Fort Wayne indoors on Friday afternoon. IPFW defeated UNO, 7-0. The Mavericks dropped to 3-18 overall and 1-2 in Summit League play, while Fort Wayne improved to 11-10 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The Mavericks dropped all three doubles competition matches to start the day. Marko Minic and John Ellis dropped their match against Andres Cobos and Daniel Cardenas at No. 2, 8-4. Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman teamed up against Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi at No. 1, but were defeated, 8-5. The tandem of Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman had the best chance to help Omaha thwart the sweep, but they fell, 8-7 (7-5), to the Mastodons' Connor Andrews and Derek Romer at No. 3.
Going into singles competition down 1-0 already, the Mavs dropped their first three matches. Anderson was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Carlos do Val at No. 3. Ellis fell to Muadi at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Greteman lost a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Karl Wangensten at No. 6.
At No. 4 singles, Warson fell in a close match to Cardenas, 7-6, 6-1. The top two Maverick singles players played valiantly, but dropped close matches. On the No. 1 singles court, Guell escaped Buckley, 6-2, 6-4. Minic, playing his first match at No. 2 singles, dropped a close match to Cobos, 7-5, 6-3.
Omaha returns to action on Saturday against IUPUI in Indianapolis in a Summit League match. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT).
