LINCOLN, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team squared off against the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on Saturday evening at the Lincoln Racquet Club. The Huskers defeated the Mavericks, 7-0.
The Mavericks tested the Huskers in all three doubles matches, but were unable to secure the doubles point.
Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman pushed the duo of Dusty Boyer and Marc Hermann at No. 1 Doubles, but lost a close match, 8-6. At No. 2, Scott Elsass and Bradford Zitsch escaped Omaha's Ignace Warson and Erik Anderson, 8-6. Marko Minic and John Ellis came up short against Chris Schindler and Court Clark at No. 3, 8-4.
"The guys played really well in doubles tonight," commented head coach Tyson Thomas. "We had some good matches, but just couldn't get over the hump."
On the No. 1 singles court, Buckley lost to Boyer, 6-3, 6-1. Linus Erhart topped Minic at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Warson pushed Charlie Shin at No. 5 singles, but fell, 6-3, 6-2.
Anderson played Hermann tough at No. 2 singles, but dropped the match, 6-3, 6-3. Ellis overcame a slow start against Zitsch at No. 4 singles, but lost, 6-1, 6-4. Greteman played a tight match against Schindler at No. 6 singles, but could not pull out the win, 6-4, 6-4.
"We had some very tight singles matches tonight," commented Thomas. "The guys competed very well and are starting to play very well."
Omaha returns to action on Tuesday, March 24 in Miami Shores, Fla. against Barry University. The match is set to start at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
