Mavs Drop Two Matches to UMKC, Abilene Christian

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Omaha men's tennis team kicked off outdoor play on Wednesday afternoon at the Plaza Tennis Complex in Kansas City, Mo.  The Mavericks dropped a pair of non-conference matches to Kansas City and Abilene Christian.  UMKC topped UNO 4-0, before the Wildcats topped Omaha, 4-0.

The Mavericks dropped the opening doubles point and were unable to regain momentum against the Kangaroos.

On the No. 1 doubles court, Colin Buckley and partner Nathan Greteman dropped the match to UMKC's Airam Castellano and Mike Psarros, 6-2.  The duo of Ignace Warson and Erik Anderson were downed by Uldis Gaismins and Andrey Smirnov, 6-1.  John Ellis and Marko Minic were dispatched by Conner Edwards and Amaury Navette, 6-2.

In No. 1 singles action, Buckley dropped his match to Castellano, 6-1, 6-0.  Warson lost his match at No. 5 to Psarros, 6-0, 6-1.  Greteman was defeated by Navette at No. 6 to close out the match, 6-1, 6-0.

Three singles matches did not complete with the outcome of the match already determined.  Anderson trailed Smirnov at No. 2, 6-1, 5-1.  Minic was in a close battle with Gaismins at No. 3, but trailed, 5-7, 2-0.  Ellis was battling back against Edwards at No. 4 before the match was called, 4-6, 3-2.

Abilene Christian 4, Omaha 0

Three singles matches and one doubles match did not complete with the outcome already determined.  In No. 1 doubles play, Abilene Christian's Jason Proctor and Paul Domanski led Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman, 4-3, before the match ended with the Wildcats having already locked up the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 2 and 3 matches.

At No. 2 doubles, Henry Adams and Nico Agritlley defeated Erik Anderson and Ignace Warson, 8-1, while Marko Minic and John Ellis fell to Marco Bensley and Guilherme Gesser at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

Anderson was trailing Proctor, 6-3, 4-0 at No. 2 singles, while Minic was behind Adams, 6-3, 2-3 at No. 3 when the match ended.  Ellis had his No. 4 singles match against Domanski stopped with the score, 6-2, 3-3.

In the matches that did complete, Abilene Christian won all three in straight sets.  Agritelley defeated Buckley at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Greteman dropped the No. 5 singles match to Bensley, 6-0, 6-1.  Lukas Vanzura was defeated by Andrew Hutchinson at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-0.

The Mavs continue their 11-match road trip on Saturday with a match against Nebraska in Lincoln.  The match will start at 7:00 p.m.  Links to live stats will be available on OMavs.com.
