OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team continued its fall schedule over the weekend at the Omaha Collegiate Invitational at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb.
The first two singles rounds were played on Saturday afternoon and the final round on Sunday.
Colin Buckley was the highest placing Maverick with a third place finish in 'C' Flight Singles. Buckley won his opening match over South Dakota State's Mateus Moreira 6-1, 4-6, 11-9. In the semifinals, Buckley dropped a three set decision to Northern Colorado's Austin Mayo 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. Buckley bounced back to win his final consolation match-up against Creighton's Harrison Lang 7-6, 5-7, 10-8.
Marko Minic brought back a 5th place showing in 'D' Flight Singles. Minic lost his opening match 6-1, 7-5 to Creighton's Anthony Rauschenbach. Minic responded in the concolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Northern Colorado's Jake Shelton. He ended the tournament with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 over North Dakota's Simon Danyluk.
Teams competing this weekend included Omaha, co-host Creighton, South Dakota State, Gustavus Adolphus and Nebraska-Kearney.
Omaha returns to action in Norman, Okla. at the ITA Regional Championships. The ITA Regionals run from Thursday, October 9 through Sunday, October 12.
