PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Omaha men's soccer team made it four wins in its last five games as it earned a 2-0 neutral site victory on Friday night in Phoenix, Ariz.  The Mavericks scored two goals within three minutes of each other in the second half to defeat Incarnate Word.
"I thought the boys played well against a good Incarnate Word team," commented head coach Jason Mims.  "We controlled the game and we created numerous scoring chances."
Vance Rookwood and Jake McCain combined on a pair of goals in the win as Josh Christensen needed to make five saves to post his fifth shut-out of the season.
Rookwood opened the scoring 67:35 into the game with his eighth goal of the season.  Michael Jaime connected a pass with Mark Moulton who dribbled into the 18 yard box.  Moulton lobbed a perfect ball to Vance Rookwood who calmly knocked the pass into the back of the net.  The assist was Moulton's ninth of the season.
Less than two minutes later, Rookwood would be involved in Omaha's second goal of the evening.  This time he played a cross from just outside the penalty area that would find defender Jake McCain.  McCain would clinically finish the cross to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.  The goal was the first of McCain's career.
Omaha led in shots 16-10 and 6-5 in shots on goal.  The Mavericks also owned a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.  UNO's defense caught Incarnate Word offside six times on the match.
Omaha improves to a program best 9-5-2 overall, while Incarnate Word ends its season with a 7-11-1 record.
The Mavericks end their season Sunday evening in Phoenix, Ariz. against Grand Canyon University.  Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. (CT) and will be webcast at gculopes.com.
