Mavs Hit the Road at Fort Wayne

Weekly Release
Live Stats

The UNO men's soccer team returns to Summit League action this weekend with a 6 p.m. (CT) game at Fort Wayne on Saturday. After a 2-0-1 start to conference play, the Mavericks stepped out of their conference schedule on Monday for a 5-2 loss at then-No. 20 Tulsa. The game at Fort Wayne will be the beginning of a long road trip, as the Mavs stay out East to face Milwaukee on Tuesday. Live stats for the Mavs' fourth of seven Summit League games will be available at OMavs.com. IPFW enters the game with an 0-12-1 record and an 0-2-1 record in Summit League play. The Mastodons picked up their only result of the season on Oct. 6 at Western Illinois, a 1-1 tie.

Standings Watch
The Fort Wayne game is an important one for the Mavs, who are battling for position in The Summit League standings. With seven points, UNO is alone in third place, two points behind unbeaten co-leaders Oakland and Kansas City. Kansas City plays at Oakland on Saturday, meaning a win for the Mavs would put them, at worst, alone in second place with three conference games to go. The Mavs cannot qualify for the conference tournament, which the top four teams go to.

Point Streaks
Both Logan Mendez and Giovanni Giattino have scored points in the last three games they have played in. Mendez tallied three points at Tulsa on Monday (1g, 2a) and has scored six points in his last three games. Giattino, who has not played the past two games, has four assists in his last three games played.

Series History
UNO and IPFW met last year with the Mastodons taking a 6-0 win over the Mavs in Fort Wayne on Sept. 4, 2011. The loss was the most lopsided one for the Mavs last year in 13 games, but it was only their third game as a program.

Stats Glance
The Mavericks are well represented in the national and Summit League statistics so far this season. Giovanni Giattino is tied for fifth in Division I in assists (7) and is second in The Summit League. Chava Garcia and Vance Rookwood are tied for fifth in The Summit League in points with 10 each. The Mavericks as a team are tied for 30th nationally in total assists (22) and are second in The Summit League. Omaha is second in The Summit League and tied for 20th nationally in goals per game (2.0). Eighteen of the Mavs' 22 goals have been scored by freshmen and sophomores.

Home Field Advantage
The Mavericks are 4-0 at the UNO Soccer Field this season with a goal difference of 13-3. Last year, the Mavs were 0-3 at home. With just one home match remaining on Oct. 28 against Oakland, the Mavericks are assured of a winning record at home this season.

Next Up for the Mavs
The Mavericks will stay out East and play at Milwaukee on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. That will be the Mavs' final non-conference game of the season.

Last Time Out
TULSA, Okla. - The Omaha men's soccer team got an early lead at No. 20 Tulsa but ended up falling 5-2 on Monday night. The Mavericks (4-6-1, 2-0-1 Summit) gained a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Chava Garcia blasted home a shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner. Logan Mendez earned the assist on Garcia's fourth goal of the season. But the Golden Hurricane (8-4, 2-1 Conference USA) showed why they are ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 Poll, scoring two first-half goals to take the lead before halftime. Cristian Mata scored in the 33rd minute to tie the game, and Bryce Follensbee gave Tulsa the lead in the 38th minute. Tulsa kept up the pressure in the second half, getting goals from Tony Rocha (63rd minute) and Omar Mata (65th minute) to stake a 4-1 lead. Omaha cut the lead to 4-2 when Mendez rebounded home a save after a Devin Diego free kick. Mendez tallied three points on the night and has now scored six points in his last three games. Tulsa's Jon Wright scored in the 88th minute to cap the scoring and make it 5-2. The Golden Hurricane outshot UNO 13-5 on frame. Matt Grosey made eight saves.

Scouting Fort Wayne
The Mastodons are 0-12-1 (0-2-1 Summit) after a 2-0 loss at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday. However, IPFW picked up its first result of the season last weekend at Western Illinois in a 1-1 tie. The Mastodons are led by Corey Tom's three goals. Fort Wayne is tied for last in The Summit League with seven goals scored this year, and they have allowed more goals than any Summit League team, 34.
