The UNO men's soccer team hits the road on Tuesday for a non-conference game as it faces SIU Edwardsville at 7 p.m. in Edwardsville, Ill. The Mavericks made the trip to Edwardsville last year and tied the Cougars 1-1. UNO is coming off a 2-0 win at home on Saturday over IUPUI to improve to 3-4-1 (1-0-1). SIUE is 7-3 this season after a 1-0 loss at home to Illinois-Chicago last Wednesday. The Cougars were receiving votes to be ranked in last week's NSCAA Top 25 Poll. Series History
In the only game of the series, Omaha and SIU Edwardsville tied 1-1 last year on Oct. 25 in Edwardsville, Ill. UNO scored in the 33rd minute on an own goal to take the lead on the road, and after surrendering an early second-half equalizer, the Mavs held SIUE scoreless for the next 63 minutes, including two overtime periods, to earn their first result since a season-opening 2-1 win at UMKC.
Grosey Named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week

Matt Grosey was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1 after shutting out IUPUI 2-0 on Sept. 29 for the Mavs' first league win of the season. Grosey made two big saves and stoned The Summit League's leading scorer, Kyle Hyland, on a penalty kick in the 74th minute to preserve the two-goal lead and shutout for UNO. The San Mateo, Calif., native has given up just two goals in his last 320 minutes in net. His .727 save percentage ranks third in the conference. OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha men's soccer team picked up its first Summit League victory on Saturday with a dominant 2-0 performance at home against the IUPUI Jaguars. The Mavs controlled the game from start to finish to improve to 3-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play. The Mavericks dominated most of the first half and put five shots on goal, resulting in two goals before halftime. At 19:41, Chava Garcia notched his third goal of the season, with the assist coming from
Giovanni Giattino, his team-leading fifth of the season and first of the day. Giattino chipped a ball over the top of the IUPUI back line, and Garcia muscled off a defender and scored from 10 yards out on the right side of the box. Jordan Gealy, who played in a cross from the right side to the back post, where
Devin Diego headed it home for his third goal of the season in just four games. Gealy picked up his second assist of the season, while Giattino earned his sixth to make him the league's assist leader. In the second half, IUPUI's best chance came on a penalty kick with just under 17 minutes left. UNO goalkeeper
Matt Grosey was whistled for a foul in the box, and Kyle Hyland, The Summit League's leading scorer with eight goals, stepped up to take the PK. Grosey read it correctly however and dove to his left to turn the shot away and keep the two-goal lead for the Mavs.
Scouting SIUE
The Cougars enter with a 7-3 record and are receiving votes to be ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 Poll. SIUE is 2-0 against The Summit League this season with 1-0 wins over IUPUI and Kansas City. Two of the Cougars' three losses have come against top-15 teams. Forward Christian Volesky leads the team with five goals. Forward partner Peter Kelly has three goals and two assists. John Berner has started six games in goal and has a 5-1 record with three shutouts and a 0.51 goals against average. Kent Kobernus has made four starts and has a 2-2 record with two shutouts and a 0.73 goals against average.
