OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Omaha athletic department announced today that all hockey games for the 2011-12 season will be carried live on 96.1 The Brew, a member of the Clear Channel group of radio stations in Omaha.

“We are looking forward to our partnership with The Brew and Clear Channel,” said Trev Alberts, UNO's Director of Athletics.  “We think the station's format is a perfect blend with the excitement of UNO hockey, and its signal will provide significant coverage across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

“We're also excited by the many cross promotional opportunities that are available through Clear Channel's group of stations in Omaha.  We think this partnership will help grow UNO hockey by introducing it to new fans.  This is the first of several significant announcements regarding our media strategy for the upcoming season.”

In addition, UNO will be the first collegiate athletic program in the country to have its own IHEARTRADIO station.  Mavericks Radio will broadcast on HD Radio at 96.1-2, and on the free IHEARTRADIO app which currently offers more than 750 broadcast and digital only radio stations on smartphones, tablets and online at www.iheartradio.com.  To date, IHEARTRADIO is one of the top music applications with more than 34 million downloads.

Program offerings on Mavericks Radio will include pre- and post-game coverage, game broadcasts and game replays.  Future program offerings will be announced at a later date.

“This is great news for our hockey program,” said Dean Blais, UNO's head coach.  “We want to continue to make our games more available to fans.  We've got another challenging season in the WCHA ahead of us, and it's good to know that all of our games will be available over a larger area.”

“We are excited about our partnership with the Mavericks.  The Brew's target audience is exactly the family audience that attends Mavericks' games,” said Taylor Walet, Vice President and Market Manager for Clear Channel Omaha. “Mavericks' Radio is ground-breaking, cutting edge and puts UNO hockey in the hands of every fan with a smartphone.”

Dave Ahlers returns to call the play-by-play for the Mavericks while Terry Leahy will be in his 15th season providing analysis.

The Mavericks begin their 15th season on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they host the University of British Columbia in an exhibition game at the CenturyLink Center.  Game time is 7:07 p.m.  They kick off their second season in the WCHA on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 and 22 when they host Alaska Anchorage.
