UNO Announces 2010 Football Recruits

2010 Recruit List

OMAHA, Neb. – University of Nebraska at Omaha head football coach Pat Behrns announced the Mavericks' class of recruits for the 2010 season today.  Coach Behrns and his staff have signed 20 high school student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to attend UNO in the fall of 2010.  An additional three student-athletes will transfer to the roster.

“I am very pleased with the recruits we have signed for this year, particularly at the defensive line position,” said Behrns.  “We worked very hard to bring in both depth and quality of the student-athletes, and it's been one of our better years recruiting at that position.”

Included in this latest class of recruits and transfers are four running backs, seven defensive linemen, two offensive linemen, one linebacker, three wide receivers, four defensive backs, one tight end and a kicker.

Nine of the high school signees are from Nebraska while seven hail from Missouri and four are from Kansas.

Those players come to a UNO team that went 7-5 overall and 6-3 in its second season in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.  UNO also appeared in the first ever Kanza Bowl, losing to West Texas A&M 31-25 on Dec. 5.  The Mavericks now have had 14 consecutive winning seasons under Behrns and have made eight NCAA appearances.

Three of the Nebraska recruits were picked for all-state teams in their classes.  In addition, five of the signees from Missouri were either first- or second-team all-state selections, and three of the Kansas recruits were all-staters.

“We've also worked on improving our overall skill level during the last three years,” Behrns said.  “I think that's reflected in the student-athletes we've been able to recruit at those positions.”

The Mavericks have found skill players both in-state and out of state.  Running back James Franklin was an all-state selection at Olathe North High School in Kansas where he ran for 5,916 yards in his career including 2,803 yards and 31 touchdowns to lead his team to the large school, Class 6A state championship.  Kicker Jacob Ramsay comes to UNO from Lincoln Pius X High School where he made 12 of 14 field goals as a senior including a pair of 50-yard tries in one game.  He follows in the footsteps of current UNO kicker Greg Zuerlein, a two-time all-MIAA first teamer who graduated from the same high school.

The transfers include one defensive back, one defensive lineman and a wide receiver.  All three are from Omaha with two having played high school football for Burke High School and the other at Westside High School.
