Bergland, Lingenfelter Headline All-MIAA First Tea

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Senior offensive linemen Dennis Bergland and Harrison Lingenfelter were named to the All-Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association first team, the league office announced on Tuesday. Sophomore running back Levi Terrell and senior tight end Mike Higgins made the All-MIAA Second Team, while four other Mavs earned honorable mention.

Bergland was one of only three All-MIAA unanimous selections by the league's 10 coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players. The Plattsmouth, Neb., native started all 11 games for the Mavs, helping anchor an offensive line that led the Mavs to the second-best rushing offense in the MIAA. Bergland was a second-team selection in 2009.

Lingenfelter, a native of Plainview, Neb., earned his second straight honor on the All-MIAA First Team. Lingenfelter started all 11 games and helped the Mavs tie for second in fewest sacks allowed (13) and rank fourth in scoring offense (34.8 ppg).

Terrell and Higgins were honored by the conference for the second and third times in their careers, respectively. Terrell, last year's MIAA Freshman of the Year, finished second in the league in rushing at 96.0 ypg and scored eight touchdowns to earn second team honors.

Higgins ended his Mavs' career as the team's leading receiver in 2010, making 39 catches for 600 yards (54.5 ypg) and seven touchdowns, on his way to earning a spot on the second team.

Freshman running back James Franklin III, freshman linebacker Shaquil Barrett and senior defensive linemen Justin Sindelar and Kevin Ehlers earned honorable mention.

Central Missouri quarterback Eric Czerniewski was selected as the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, while Northwest Missouri defensive back Ryan Jones was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year.
Washburn kicker Steve Ivanisevic was named the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Year and Pittsburg State linebacker Nate Dreiling was voted the MIAA Freshman of the Year.

Northwest Missouri head coach Mel Tjeerdsma was named the MIAA Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive season and 12th time overall after guiding the Bearcats to their fifth straight undefeated conference season and MIAA title.
