Kush, Higgins Recognized for Academic Achievement

Senior wide receiver Troy Kush and sophomore tight end Mike Higgins have both earned ESPN the Magazine Academic all-District XII honors in football in a vote by the district's sports information directors. The award is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida).

Both Kush, who carries a 3.84 GPA in business management, and Higgins, who sports a 3.95 average in civil engineering, were named to the second team.

Kush is UNO's leading receiver with 36 catches for 368 yards and two touchdowns.  Higgins is third on the Mavericks' receiving chart with 18 catches for 326 yards and two touchdowns.

In all, 14 MIAA football players were selected to the Academic All-District team. District VII of the College Division includes all NCAA Division II and III institutions, NAIA schools and junior colleges in the states of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota, as well as all colleges in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The Mavericks (6-3, 5-3 MIAA) will finish the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Washburn.  Kick-off is 1 p.m.
