KEARNEY, Neb. – The top-ranked Maverick wrestling squad blanked ninth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney 33-0 Saturday night at the Heath and Sports Center. The win lifts the Mavericks to 7-1 in dual action on the year. The loss snaps the Lopers five-match winning streak and drops their dual record to 10-6.

The last time UNO shutout an opponent in a dual was on Jan. 26, 2006 when the Mavs drilled the St. Cloud State Huskies, 53-0.

It is the third time ever that UNO has blanked Nebraska-Kearney in a dual. The previous two times were during the 1965-66 (UNO 36, KS 0) and 1987-88 (UNO 45, KS 0) seasons when UNK was referred to as Kearney State.

The dual began with second-ranked Terrell McKinney facing off against Danny Luttrell at 125. The two needed extra time to settle the match and it was the redshirt freshman McKinney who scored a late takedown to earn the sudden victory win, 6-4.

Second-ranked Cody Garcia handled sixth-ranked Joey Morrison easily with a 16-1 win by technical fall at 5:59. It’s the 36th-straight win for Garcia who is now 36-0 and 8-0 in duals on the year. It was Garcia’s first win of the season by tech. fall.

Mario Morgan continued to wrestle well and won his 17th consecutive match with a 4-0 win over Tyler Baker at 141. The third-ranked Morgan is now 28-3 overall and 8-0 in duals on the year.

In the 149 pound match, No. 3 Esai Dominguez battled No. 4 T.J. Hepburn. Dominguez trailed 3-1 in the match until he scored a takedown with eight second left in the match to tie the score at 3-3 and force the extra period. Dominguez used another takedown to earn the 5-3 sudden victory win. The win is Dominguez’s 20th of the year and first in dual action.

George Ivanov beat Jordan Gienger with a 12-4 major decision in the 157 pound match.

At 165, fourth-ranked Ryan Pankoke and sixth-ranked Taylor May squared off. Pankoke earned a 3-1 win. It was the 24th win of the season for Pankoke.

Sixth-ranked Austin Boehm defeated Derek Ross 2-1 at 184. Top-ranked Jacob Marrs earned a 3-2 win over Justin McKain at 197 pounds.

Elijah Madison insured the shutout with a 4-1 win over Ben Hohensee at 285.
