OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 victory over the University of Mary Saturday afternoon at the UNO Soccer Field.
The Mavericks were able to take the lead early into the contest when senior MaryClaire Murnan headed the ball in goal off a corner kick delivered by junior Megan Jensen at 4:58.
Senior Casey Bigsby added the game-winning goal at the 21:24 mark, when freshmen Becca Swanson crossed the ball to Bigsby where she was able to lob it over the Mary goalkeeper.
UNO used a relentless offensive attack on the Marauders (0-4), outshooting them 17 to 8 and controlling the ball for most of the contest.
The Mavericks added an insurance goal late in the second half when MaryClaire Murnan scored her second goal of the match when she beat Mary goalkeeper Carly Feiler on a touch-pass goal in the 78th minute.
Mary scored its only goal of the match on a penalty kick by Jessica Janusz when she beat UNO junior goalkeeper Elizabath Odorisio in the left corner.
UNO will start a three-game roadtrip next week as they open Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action Sept. 11 against Missouri Western at 7 p.m. and Sept. 13 when Truman State hosts the Mavs at 12:00 p.m.
